As long as your alternate source provides any power, it is legal. Last
year, when we started field day I took a picture of the voltage reading on
the K2 on the battery. Later I took a picture of the solar array, an
ammeter reading current to the K2 from the array, and the voltage on the K2
while on the battery which was higher than the first reading. The
Assistant SCM was there and he signed a note certifying that what I
reported was true. You are supposed to provide proof, but they don't say
what the proof has to be.
