[Elecraft] K1 # 690 dead again

I had a problem with my K1 where I could not get any
power out on TX (the LCD always indicated "P0.1").
Twiddling with the pots on the filter board SEEMED to
cure the problem at the time. However, in the midst
of doing the alignments, I lost power again. The LCD
went from a nominal power out to "P0.1". I was also
watching the power out on a wattmeter and monitoring
the carrier on another rig. When the power dropped,
the wattmeter reading went to zero and I lost the signal.
This tells me that the radio has the capacity to work (i.e.,
I probably put all the components in the right places and
the solder joints are all good). Nonetheless, I went over
the connections again and "ohmed-out" all the toroids
again.
I also performed all the DC voltage checks on the RF and
filter boards per page 7 of the Troubleshooting section.
The voltages were all good. I am beginning to suspect
the following, in order of likelihood:
- Defective/intermittent component
- Defective/intermittent board trace
- solder bridge/stray component lead shorting
somewhere (unlikely)
- Evil Spirits
- Osama bin Laden
I plan to go to Radio Shack and dig up the parts to
make the RF probe described in the Troubleshooting
section and go through the "Transmitter Signal Tracing"
steps on page 6.
Does anyone have any other thoughts on the subject
before I call Exorcists 'R Us?
Thanks again and 73,
Bob WA4FOM
