Hi,

I've been doing a 1B Battery Field Day starting in 1997 using a Wilderness 
Radio
Sierra.  Last year was my last year for the event, but then I built a K2 
and decided
to give it another go.

I ran 5 watts and was very pleased with the K2 and how well it worked with 
the NA
logging program.

I had a few technical problems, but nothing involving the K2.  I started 
off using
a solar charged battery and then switched to a 30 amp-hour deep-cycle battery.
Boy, was I surprised when I got a Low Battery alert from the K2 after using the
battery for only a couple of hours.  I expect the battery has a bad cell.  But,
all was well.  I had two good gel cells that I kept charged from my solar panel
and two marginal gel cells from an old UPS that got me through the 24 hours.

My only complaint with the K2 is the "QSK".  Compared to Ten-Tec rigs, it's
pretty terrible.  I did the QSK mod, but that didn't help much.

It was really fun doing Field Day with the K2.  It added a bit of excitement to
Field Day, which had become a bit boring for me.
