FWIW -- when first I finished my KPA100 I did some two-way tests with 
Tom, N0SS, where we did A-B tests using my TS-570DG and (I think) a 
TS-930 on his end.  This was on 20 and 15 SSB (i.e., both USB).  I was 
using a Kenwood hand mike (since replaced by an MH-2) and I don't recall 
what he used.

I could detect very little change in audio quality when he switched 
rigs.  He said my K2/100 had "fuller" audio than the TS-570DG.

So my audio is not "mushy" -- unless switching to an MH-2 has made it so 
(and that would be amazing!).
