[Elecraft] Using a K2 with old rig

My (new to me) K2 has just "arrived" and I'd like to use it with my Drake T-4X.
Has anyboy tried one of these two approaches?

1. Use T-4X to transmit and interface the mute line (AFAIK, R8 is an output line; is there an equivalent input line)?
2. Use the K2 to transmit and use the T-4X as a linear amp.
