The easiest portable antenna by far is a couple of hanks of wire used at the
output of the KAT2 (or KAT1).
Yes, the mechanical considerations for ease in getting a radiator in the air
are important to many hams - each has his own opinions based on his own
preferences.  But IMHO, there is nothing easier than throwing the end of a
wire up onto some support, using another wire for a counterpoise and letting
the KAT2 tune it for the band of interest at the time (it is just as or more
efficient than any other antenna with a similar length of radiating
element) - and I only have to carry the hanks of wire rather than some
combination of clamps and tubing and coils.
