I find that the W1AW Code Practice frequencies
are exactly on using a TS-850 and tuning in the CW
mode, the published frequencies are dialed in with a
comfortable listening tone and with a 500 Hz filter.
Someone made a comment about two weeks ago that
the frequencies were 28067.487, 21067.469 and
14047.607. I disagree with the last frequency and the
assertion that the frequency is off. On my Kenwood,
the frequency was 14047.500, using the exact listening
tone as the other W1AW channels.
In my opinion, W1AW is close enough in accuracy for
spot checks for the VFO alignment. Use WWV if you can,
for greater accuracy. I am aware that W1AW code practice moves
frequency from time to time, but
on various days when I have checked the accuracy of
W1AW, they were exactly where they should be, and yes
they should provide fairly accurate marker signals for frequency checking
(without a frequency counter or
with Spectrogram software).
