Handling twin/open wire feeders attached to 500 foot of wire sounds like a
good way to tickle your fingers... how about using a 4:1 voltage balun with
the centre tap taken to a ground rod? You can then deal with a sort length
of coax without touching the feeder and the antenna has a DC ground at all
times. I use the same type of balun outside the shack, about 3 foot of coax
straight through the wall to the back of the K2, antenna doublet.

Tip: make two similar baluns and connect them "back to back", then try
feeding RF through them to a power meter/dummy load to check for loss across
1.8 to 30 MHz.
