I was thinking of something completely different: How about a "Transmitter"
version of the K1- Two bands (80 and 40) that is adapted as a VFO/driver
for other gear?
Just an "idea"!

|
| Or, a K2A or K2B, etc... One with ALL the accessories included in the
| kit.
|
| But, if you're talking NEW kits, I don't see how you're going to come up
| with a "K3" very well since I would think the K2 is just about the best
| thing going right now.
|
| My suggestion would be to expand on what you already have such as
| a KR1 (receiver only) or KT1 (transmitter only) similar to the existing
| units except with a few more features as a stand-alone transmitter and
| transmitter that look like the K1. The being along the same line that
| Collins incorporated into the S-Line with separate transmitter/receiver
| that also looked like the KWM2 series... Maybe a components like
| Collins great station control unit with a SWR bridge, speaker, power
| supply, etc. in a matching cabinet. Even for use with the K1, an out-
| board ATU, PS, SWR meter w/front speaker is doable and I would also
| say it would be a very marketable accessory, just like an outboard
| broad band amplifier for up to about 50w.
|
| The same would hold true for the K2 - There are those who do enjoy
| the ability to handle transmitter and receiver separately. And the
| station control unit, speaker, power supply, etc make for a very good
| looking installation. That's not to mention the compromises needed
| to pack all of those things into one cabinet....
|
| I say lets give the import guys a run for their money and expand on
| the whole K1 and K2 line in this manner....
|
| Just my two cents worth of dreaming... ;)
