I agree with you: the soldering braid and helping hand with magnifier really help.  Get the fine braided soldering wick and things will go more smoothly.  Closeable lure 
organizers are the ticket.  Knock over your nicely sorted parts just once and you will go out and buy one.  Save yourself some time and some grief.  Buy one before this 
happens.  I just see these things in my dreams and try to keep domestic tranquility by using my dreams as prescient reminders of worst case scenarios :)
