[Elecraft] Making K2 Computer Compatible

I need some help from one of you computer geniuses.I am trying to get my 
K2/100 to talk to my Dell Dimension XPS R450 computer.  I have tried to go 
into the control panel to find the COM1 port and open it up.  I can't seem to 
find where to do this and set up the com parameters.  I think I have 
downloaded K2 Remote Setup, but it did not seem to run as long as the six or 
so minutes to download.  I downloaded to the disc drive.  The hard drive 
(system programs) doesn't seem to like taking this info from the disc drive.  
I have connected the K2 to the serial port.  I have run the automatic search 
for new devices without success.  What am I doing wrong, and what is the 
correct way to proceed.  Since this is computer related and not strictly 
Elecraft related, please contact me direct.  Thanks in advance for your help.
