[Elecraft] external battery at Tuthill

Hif folks - I want to take my K2 to rhe Tuthill Hamfest in Flagstaff, AZ
next week and don't believe the internal battery will be sufficient for
the whole weekend. I know that I cannot hook up an external battery
supply directly to the DC power jack, so what is the simplest way to use
an external battery when the internal battery gets low? Do I simply need
to pop the top, unhook an internal battery lead,  and then plug the
external battery into the DC in power jack? Thanks for the help. Could
you please reply direct since I'm getting the reflector in digest form
