My apologies, Kevin. I misread what you are doing.
I have a separate 1- MHz oscillator that I "tweak" exactly onto WWV
within a fraction of a Hz at 15 MHz using an auxiliary receiver, then I
zero beat the 4 MHz oscillator with it in the same manner. That produces
a frequency accuracy far beyond that the K2 can use or display over
time. I was thinking that you were using a similar process with your
Icom.
Trying to simply tune in a signal to "zero beat" is pretty futile, as
Dan, WG4S, pointed out. The Icom (and your K2) is designed to suppress
all frequencies near "zero beat". As one op pointed out, you MIGHT be
able to see the 'beat' watching the audio on an oscilloscope, since
there is always some small leakage through the filters, but it's going
to be hard to hear, if you can hear anything at all.

I am just following the procedure on page 57 of the K2 assembly manual.
Others on this reflector have mildly condemned the use of WWV since it
is unrelated to the 4
MHz frequency the VFO uses. If WWV transmitted at 4 MHz your suggestion
would work quite well. As it is I need to adjust C22 for the best 4 MHz
signal I can find. Try
this it works pretty well. I am in the process of testing my results
now.
