[Elecraft] k1 ass'y problem (display)

Folks,
    I've assembled k1 # 1239 up to the 1st RF board alignment and all =
resistance and DC checks were O.K. Put the front panel and RF board =
together, applied 13.8V and hit the switch, the LEDs flash as described =
in the manual, the "3F" segment on the LCD flashes a few times and then =
the LCD goes blank. Plugging in headphones gets me "di dah di dah di =
dah" without end. When turned off, the "3F" LCD segment and the yellow =
LED blink.
    I checked the switches over and over, and checked continuity from =
the LCD to the CPU. Checked DC on the CPU and all is 3V where expected, =
0V on pin 5. Checked all LCD pins and could find no shorts to ground. =
Don't know what else to check.
    Should the keyer be running? Can I have a bad LCD?=20
