[Elecraft] K2 & K1 problem??

 I am also constructing a K2... all is fine except when I tap the
"rate/lock" button, I get "nOt inSt" then it goes straight into the main
menu, when I tap it a second time it goes to the voltage current
display, so then I tap the "display" button to go back to the VFO and it
does but it's on a different band then when I started??? 
If I hold the "rate/lock" button, it goes into what looks like a memory
store mode????
  Also when I change bands some of the bands display the freq with one
digit past the decimal and some display it with two digits past the
decimal, I have not read the entire manual so I'm not sure if this is
also a problem. 
 
Any input would be apreciated.

With rev 2 firmware, what you SHOULD be seeing when you tap the
RATE/LOCK button is the number of digits past the decimal place change
as the tuning rate is switched between 10 Hz (two places to the right of
the decimal showing), 100 Hz (one place showing) and 1 kHz (no digits to
the right of the decimal). Press and hold the RATE/LOCK should make LOC
appear, meaning that the tuning is "locked". 

Clearly something is wrong on yours. Assuming that your resistance
checks were all good so far, I'd start with a visual inspection for
shorts around the switch buttons. Just a guess...
