[Elecraft] Contest anyone ?

Albert:
The idea of a K2/K1 contest has indeed been discussed on this reflector,
and, I am thankful, has been mainly negged. From my perspective, one more
contest is decidedly not needed. There are entirely too many as there are.
Also, from my perspective, specialized contests are a special annoyance to
the vast majority of other hams who are not specialized. When you really
stop to think of it, such affairs are a form of arrogance and ego feeding
that, for most, is rather unfortunate. I think you will find, for example,
that there is no contest more despised by a very large number of hams than
the FOC contest, whose purpose, I must admit, eludes me -- beyond affording
a rather disgusting ego trip for those self-appointed sorts that, somehow,
consider themselves "first class." There would have to be a similar sort
of feeling by non K2/K1 owners about a proprietary contest for these rigs.

And, really, there isn't a need for it. When two K2/1 ops make contact,
there is typically an exchange of serial numbers, and you can have your own
continuing contest in trying to amass as large a number of other K2/1s as
you can. I know there are some among us that have huge numbers here -- far
more than I'll ever have. If you want a contest, try to catch up to them
-- on your own.

Just my humble opinion,
