Something that may be of help to you is a copy of Volume 14 "Introduction to
Microelectronics" of NEETS (Navy Electricity and Electronics Training
Series). This course was part of the training given to Navy electronics
technicians to be qualified to repair "Micro Electronics" - PCBs (It was
called Micr electronics when "normal" electronics were vacuum tubes).
Though written back in the 70's, it is not outdated for the typical ham
radio kit. Covers soldering, gives good color images of various joints, and
includes techniques for parts removal. (By the way, if you make a mistake -
the board is more important then the part! Cut the part off then remove the
leads. DO NOT try to save the part!!!) Even includes a section on repair of
damaged circuit boards, pad, and trace replacement. AND ESD - Electrostatic
Discharge precautions and techniques.
I have the complete series in PDF format and can send you a copy if desired.
Volume 14 is 4MGB so I will only send if requested as many e-mail servers
will not accept that size of a file. You may also be able to find it on the
internet with a Google search for "Navy NEETS" and then look on the web
pages for module 14.
As a retired Navy Chief Electronics Technician, I can attest to the value of
the material in the NEETS course.

I just ordered the K2 and KSB2. I can't wait to start
construction. While awaiting arrival of the kit, I would appreciate a few
suggestions.
