I'm no expert on solder or soldering stations, but I can definitely tell 
you an 8' folding table is more than enough room.  I'm also using a folding 
table, but it's only 6' long (the kind of table you'd take camping), and I 
have junk piled up on part of it.  More important than the amount of space 
is the degree of effort you put into organizing the parts (during the parts 
inventory) and the care with which you do the construction and follow the 
directions.  Good luck!
