The Palm might be the way to go! That solves the dilemma of not wanting to
tie up (and boot up) your PC each time.
Of course, the Palm's screen is smaller than the K2's front panel, but still
larger than the K2's display. Even a simple app which just shows VFO
splits, frequency stacks, etc. would still be useful.
Another page on the Palm screen could be a virtual memory keyer, with
one-touch access to each of the message memories.
