Because the K2 and Elecraft are not well-known outside
QRP circles.

YES.

Can't tell you how many times I've heard the
following from hams:

"Too bad Heath is gone. You can't build a modern,
full-featured rig anymore".

"Except for Ten Tec, all ham gear is Japanese"

"I love CW, but the inexpensive rigs aren't very 
good and the good CW rigs cost too much - 'specially
when you add the filters".

"I want to try QRP, but all those little rigs are CW only, have only one band, no features and so-so receivers"

And many more. WE know that none of the above are true,
but how about the rest of the amateur world?
