ASSUME that the probe is NOT defective until you can confirm it. Otherwise
you may waste a lot of time.
If you have a clip-lead available and a capacitor (something between 10pF
and .001uF), try merely connecting them in series from the (INSIDE) pin of
the FCTR jack to TP3 and see if you get a reading when going to MENU | CAL
FCTR. If you do, then suspect the probe.
ANOTHER thing it consider... a number of our builders have inadvertently
inserted the two receptacle contacts into the FCTR PLUG in the reverse
order, thus GROUNDING the center wire of the probe. The shield of the coax
attaches to the OUTSIDE pin of the FCTR plug.
