[Elecraft] Why noise generator?

None. I have a noise generator and I have done it both ways. There is no
need  to use a noise generator. There is PLENTY of band noise available,
especially on the lower bands with the pre-amp on.

That said, some ops prefer to use a noise generator to avoid any signals
popping up in the bandpass while they are doing the setup or to have the
noise level change at all during the process because someone is running an
appliance, etc. But using a noise generator does not result in any better
alignment of the K2.
