<< If you feel you must be exactly on by all means
build the tuning indicator. For me I will stick to what works-my ears!>>
Unless you are tone deaf your ears are probably as good as if not better than
typical tuning indicators. The K2 tunes in 10 Hz steps and it is easy to hear
that when I try to zero beat somebody and they fall in between steps. I find
rigs with finer steps easier to zero beat.
In the majority of cases it won't matter if you are a couple of hundred Hz off
but in some case it can be beneficial to be zero beat accurately, like when you
are tail ending a DX QSO in bad condx (zero beat to the domestic sta you are
tail-ending, not the DX sta) or when you are working some op who's rig doesn't
have RIT or split (like me on my SST).
It's just another operating skill to master and simply good operating practice
to do it when it's appropriate.
