Another loudspeaker problem that can happen is over tightening the bolts
mounting a speaker, thus distorting the frame as Ron has suggested.

As a first step, loosen mounting screws and see if the sound increases and
distortion goes away, then retighten evenly all around, and not too much.

On some speakers, I have had to add a washer behind the frame edge at each
bolt hole to level the speaker frame to the mounting bracket, and not cause
a distortion of the cone.  This is for speakers that have a raised lip
sticking back of the flanges around the entire cone outer edge.
