Here in the USA, several builders found that their loudspeakers had been
damaged. The magnet is so heavy that rough handling somewhere during
shipment bent the frame of the loudspeaker so the voice coil attached to the
cone rubbed on the magnet. That will produce a scratchy sound. Is that what
you hear?
Elecraft replaced several speakers with this problem. I fixed mine by
putting a wide screwdriver blade between the edge of the magnet and the
frame and gently twisting it so I moved the magnet slightly, but not enough
to make the frame stay bent. I could just see the edge of the magnet move
one or two millimeters. I worked my way around the magnet gently trying each
spot and at one place I found where twisting the screwdriver to move the
magnet made the sound clear. I twisted a little harder to bend the frame
slightly at that point and the sound stayed clear. It has been fine ever
since.
If the sound is distorted AND weak, make sure you have the loudspeaker wired
correctly. If you reverse the wires going to the loudspeaker you will 'short
out' the audio. That could cause distortion too, but you will also have very
weak audio.
Congratulations on your K2!
