Plenty of light aircraft fly in perfect safety with absolutely no radios 
aboard.

After all, flying was invented long before Radio was portable enough to 
use in an aircraft.

Now, THAT is scary. If the skin of the aircraft was so corroded as to 
have large holes in the floor -- I'd hazard to guess it was not airworthy.
