Sorta on Topic:

A total of 13 HF contacts in the log (I am a newbie) using 10w from K2 #1932
into a 70m horizontal loop around the roof perimeter, including 2 UR's and 1
UT on 20m SSB. Getting these 3 and hearing all those others over the seas
has sent me on a quest for more directivity. I need something I can put up
for operating, orient in the direction I want to cover and then take down
during daylight (CC&R restrictions - no antennas!). Initially I was thinking
1/4 wave ground plane vertical but I'd like more directivity.

If I can't elevate a horizontal Moxon Rectangle or a FD Special above a 1/2
wavelength (no big trees), does vertically orienting them in the manner of a
ground-mounted 1/2 wavelength vertical dipole retain their gain and
directivity but obtain the low radiation angle of the vertical? Or does
close proximity of one end to the ground detune them too much? (I asked on
e-ham but no response on the pattern effects. My modeling attempts were not
successful.)

Thanks,
John, KD7OIU, K2 #1932
