[Elecraft] SSB Filters

Dan, Ron and all,
I do recall that a while back there was some concern about 'de-tuning' L34
to flatten the SSB response - it degraded the S/N ratio of the receiver for
CW and the narrower filters - that was when Wayne came out with the
'flattening mod'.
Perhaps Wayne has had a change of heart about detuning L34 for a flatter
passband, but I don't know about it - it would be nice to hear from him on
this issue. I also do not understand why this change has not become a part
of the base design (but then the RF board design has been stable and
Elecraft may not have done a PC board level update yet).

You are absolutely right, it's just build the thing, and remove the 10 pf
cap, and twist some knobs (one LARGE, several small). I read about the
"flattening mod", but the Spectrogram came out so nice without it, I don't
really see the need. The guys on the receiving end don't seem to hear the
need either<g>.
By your description of removing C180, I take it you did not put the "filter
flattening" mod in that is provided as an Application Note on the Elecraft
Reflector.
