Does this mean if you replace the top cover to insert the KPA100 you will
also lose the internal speaker as well?

The K2 was designed as a 100 watt H.F. transceiver. Builders may, at their
discretion, leave the 100 watt amplifier module out of it in order to have a
QRP rig.
However, no 100 watt modules for the K2 have been shipped yet. When they do,
they will fit into your existing K2 just as if it had been built that way
from the very first.
That's a critical point, because the FCC here in the USA won't allow such an
amplifier to be offered as a stand-alone "add-on" to an existing rig.
The KAT2 and battery options will not work with the KPA100. The KAT2 is
strictly a low-power ATU. The current demands for the KPA100 are much
greater than the battery could handle. So the KPA100 will simply replace the
top cover of the K2. If you have the battery and KAT2 for QRP work and want
to run your K2 at its full rated output of 100 watts, you simply unscrew the
top cover and remove it. That removes the KAT2 and Battery automatically and
leaves room for the KPA100. The KPA heat sink forms a replacement top cover
for the K2 in it's "QRO" configuration. The last I heard, the KPA100
includes the KIO2, so you don't lose the computer interface functions.
