A single sharp spin shouldn't be needed in operation. If you need to go =
A WAYS down, just hold band UP and band DOWN together for a half second, =
and then type in the freq , BU/BD 1 0 0 0 0 =3D WWV, whatever band =
you've been on. The AT will switch the settings for that band, etc. =
Really neat.
What you want to adjust is so the knob is easy to rotate slowly by using =
very light pressure on the knob face, rather that it's edges. Put the K2 =
or FP up about 4 inches (as if the bail were in place) and try to =
control the knob in slow, gentle movements but only with the lightest of =
pressure on it's face by the end of your index finger (no the other =
finger).
Anyhow, the screws are on the front of the assembled rig, and you can =
easily diddle the knob tension if you find you don't like in operation =
what you've set up.
My setup is to allow the weight of the knob to be the tension. I loosen =
the setscrews, remove/replace the knob to shake things loose, point the =
knob at the ceiling (so gravity tensions the knob abainst the felt), and =
gently snug one setscrew, then gently snug the other, then set the radio =
down and more firmly set the screws. Seems to be a nice, repeatable =
compromise.

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 knob 'feel'
Mention was made yesterday of the adjustment of the knob on the K2 and =
its spacing
from the felt washer. I will obviously have to readjust this when the =
rig is 'on
air', but what sort of friction is correct. At the moment with the knob =
just
touching the felt but by no means tight on it a single sharp spin on the =
knob causes
it to rotate by just over one revolution. Is this about right or should =
it spin
rather more free?
