[Elecraft] External keyer question...

Rich-

Thanks for the thought; I'll give your suggestion a try tomorrow since I
have a spare T-R-S stereo plug I can substitute for the mono plug I
presently am fiddling with that has the RCA plug on the opposite end.

BTW if you can stand the price, the Schurr Profi-2 is one really nice hunk
of hardware as paddles go...heavy, solid, great looking at least IMHO. I
saved my change a long time for it, but it's one of the best pieces of gear
I own.

Also just FYI, I used a Futaba aileron-servo extension cable (1 m long) to
use with the SA-5010 3-pin external paddle connector on the Heath keyer.
The extension cable's 3-pin plug fits the Heath rear-panel connector very
well. I cut off the other end (that usually plugs into the onboard R/C
aircraft receiver) and substituted a 1/8" stereo plug to plug into an
external paddle (in this case just a spare plastic paddle I use ocasionally
when the grandkids are here). The whole lashup worked out fine as a way of
not having to use the Heath capacitively-coupled paddles (they're OK but a
real paddle feels a lot better to me).

I'll keep you and the others posted about the outcome of the SA-5010.

You mentioned MONO plug. On my K2 it will not key with a MONO plug. I had
to use a STEREO plug. I guess the long sleeve holds down the other line and
prevents the CPU from seeing the changes. I just took a cheap Radio Shack
3.5 M Stereo to RCA and used the one that goes from the tip of the stereo
plug to the center conductor of the RCA, and cut off the other RCA
connector.

Have been using it on my K2 while I decide on which set of paddles to get.
I guess Kent and Bencher are like fords and chevies. To the one that owns
one its the best and the other is junk. I had all but decided on a KENT and
a fellow ham at work is trying to convince me the Kent is not worth the
difference in price over the Bencher.
