Yes and no.

If you want to create an "amplifier"  with the DX-40 for CW only, then it 
is definitely possible. I hope you weren't expecting QSK operation, 
though.

However, if you want to operate any other mode, like SSB, PSK, etc. 
Forget it.

Basically, you'd be using your K2 has a sophisticated VFO for the DX-40. 
Since the final amplifier in the DX-40 is class C, it's no good for any 
sort of modulated waveform -- like SSB. But for CW, it's ok.

Remember that you'll have to rig some sort of T/R switching with an old 
radio like the DX-40.
