This might depend on total number of lines needed, (RJ 45 has 8 and is the
largest common RJ); and it depends perhaps on whether this might introduce
noise with a multiplexed display.

The K2 shuts down the display to reduce noise on a duty cycle basis as I
recall.
Other radios have continuous refresh which can be quite an RF noise source.
The Ten Tec SWL receiver display radiates quite a bit for example.

How far away would you want the display?
It might make more sense to remote the entire front panel board, such as
Icom does.
