Makes great sense to me. His S-meter, like yours, was not 'calibrated'
properly to match his ears and he realized that.

Too often an op will tell me that I am S-1 but "booming in nicely". I want
to tell him to paint his S-meter black so he can't see it, but that wouldn't
be polite.

My K2 S-meter works fine. I found a signal that was S-9 to my ears and set
it to read S-9. Perfect!
