After you build the K1, you probably won't need it.  You could try a PSK20 
or PSK80 if you are into PSK, or something from the NJQRP collection of 
accessories, or one of Bob Lewis' or Tom Hammond's accessories as a warm up 
if you think you might need one.  A some persons who had never built any 
kit started on the K2; I don't know about the K1.  It should be easier than 
the K2.
