[Elecraft] Verticals

Thanks for the wealth of information guys. You gave me quite a bit to
digest. At one time, I was going to put up a 40 foot tower with a C3SS on
the top. But that does not look like a possibility. So I figured I would
go with a vertical. I am using RG8X now. Yea, I know, I shouldn't. When I
got the antenna up, it was kinda in a hurry to get myself on the air when
moving into our new house.

When I started on HF a couple of years ago, I built an attic antenna
(details are at http://www.qsl.net/n8xe/antenna_help.html ) which I thought
did well for my needs at the time. I found that 5 watts did alot! And 50
watts did alot too (to my answering machine, phone, etc) When I got my home,
I decided that I was going to put up an outside antenna. It works pretty
well. I have been wanting to replace the RG8X with LMR400 that I have.
Will that change some of the performance? I find it difficult to attach the
darn ends to the LMR400!!

From what it sounds like, it may just not be worth getting the vertical (not
that a vertical will NOT work). It is just I do not want to sink the
time/money into something that will do only do a little better. If I went
with a tower, then the cost is worth the extras you get with one...

Thanks! Looking forward to the K2...
