[Elecraft] Green Filter Mounting

Hi All

There have been several postings about problems with the two sided tape that
is used to mount the green filter over the S-meter. When I built the first
two K2's the supplied tape worked well. I just peeled the backing pressed
onto the filter, pulled off the backing from the other side and mounted the
filter. (BTW you need to clip the upper right corner of the filter to clear
the bezel screw) The last two K2's I built I had problems with the tape also.
Elecraft may have changed suppliers. The new tape is more like glue than tape
and tends to stretch and ball up when the backing is removed. It's easy to
screw up.

I have done a little experimenting and found two alternate ways to mount the
filter if you have destroyed the supplied tape. Scotch makes a two sided tape
dispenser pen that makes quick work of mounting the filter. Just draw two
lines along the edges of the filter with the pen and stick it in place. The
downside is the pen costs about $4 but it would useful for many other glue
jobs around the house (mounting QSL cards on the wall or in an album). The
other method uses normal two side tape that comes on a roll. The tape is too
wide, so stick it to the filter so half is hanging over the edge and cut off
the excess with an Xacto knife or scissors. Then stick the filter to the
inside of the front panel.
