I didn't need the scope for the K2 or the KAT2, but it sure came in =
handy on the KIO2!=20
The SEND line hung out at -9 and threw some square pulses up to +13 when =
I hit TEST on the K2. The receive line hung out at -9 and threw some =
square pulses up to -6 when I typed. Huh!=20
Everything was perfect on inspection (except pins 1-5 on my serial cable =
were reversed!). I counted them backwards about 15 times. Might never =
have figured it out without the scope. Tracing back to see what was =
loading it up so the computer couldn't swing it positive, I wound up on =
[if memory serves] ALC or somesuch.
It's also nice to SEE how nice the K2 keys. My ears say it "Keys Nice", =
but my 'scope says so too. Must be true!

It would be nice if, included in the trouble shooting section of the =
manual,
there were signal descriptions and levels one might expect to see with =
an
oscilloscope. Something like, 2 Vpp perfect sine wave, or 1 Vpp =
distorted
sine wave, etc. Or better yet, pictures of the various signals.
I realize not everyone has access to a scope, so if Elecraft does not =
want
to imply the need for one, maybe this info could be placed on the web in =
a
PDF document. Even without a scope, this would be very educational on
what's going on along the signal path.
I do have access to scope that can write to a disk file, so if there is
interest I could probably upload some signal images from various test
points. Scope is a four channel job that will also display frequency =
and
voltage (numeric) values. I'm open to suggestion on what to capture.
