Thanks to all. I am well on the way to aligning this board. I omitted =
the VFO linearization as suggested since I had already done it when the =
rig was built.
I cleaned the filings off the transistor but still had a "short". It =
turns out that the meter I was using (my Triplett 360 VOM) was turning =
on the transistor and showing a short. Sometimes I had a short and =
sometimes I didn't (it was discovered by my elmer upon watching me that =
sometimes I picked up the red lead first, and sometimes I picked up the =
black lead first). He checked it out using his DMM and found things to =
be ok, but I did spend about 2 hours with this"learning experience"
In tuning up the board at 10 watts, I got the following readings on my =
Bird 43:
1800 khz- 6 watts
2000 khz- 9 watts
3500khz -11 watts
4000 khz- 8.5 watts
I tried peaking at 1850 and 1900 both. 1850 got me a watt higher on 160 =
and 1900 got me less than a watt total power out.=20
As suggested, I was using a 5A power supply set to about 13.4 volts. =
The rig was pulling about 2 A on key down.
Is there something else I could try or is it ok with the power out that =
I am getting? Thanks.
Chris
