[Elecraft] Drake twins quiet compatred to K2?

Hi folks -
In doing some exploring about vintage radios, I had one fellow tell me that
he traded his K2 for a really nice Drake C-line pair (the twins). He said
the quietness of the tube receiver compared to digital noise in the K2 was
amazing. My question is this: were the tube rigs by default quieter than the
solid state rigs and now the DSP rigs? I've never operated a tube radio and
am curious.
