Thanks to all those who wrote with suggestions.

The "blind troubleshooter" award goes to those who suggested I look at
the KPA100 input section. Indeed, one of T4's inputs wasn't soldered
properly; in fact, it was difficult to get a good joint here, for some
reason. 

It's alive; first QSO with K4PV lasted over an hour -- Jim wanted to
know everything there was to know about the K2. Think we have another
convert!
