There is a test that originates with Elecraft that consists of touching
and scratching the transistor with a metallic screwdriver. It is the
transistor right in front of the noise blanker, I believe it is the
post-mixer amplifier. I had exactly the same problem as you and
discovered eventually that it actually did supress the noise generated
in this way.
