All:
Thanks to the info and support I received from list members in response to my
slinky antenna question, I installed a slinky attic dipole yesterday. It
consists of two 66 foot slinkys each stretched to 7.5 feet and configured as
an inverted V. The feed point is about 20 feet off the ground and the
antenna element ends are about 14 feet. I got SWRs as follows: 7.040 is now
3.0 down from 3.5 and 10.106 is 2.0 down from 2.4. I believe these are big
improvements over my 44 foot hybrid dipole. 15 and 20 are the same.
I have one question concerning the 4 inch OD cast iron waste system vent pipe
that runs up thru the attic and the roof. I installed the antenna about 1.5
feet from the pipe. About 5 feet of one antenna element's 7.5 feet runs
parallel to the pipe and is 1.5 feet away. I installed the antenna in this
location because a colleague believes that the vent pipe is grounded because
it is attached to the waste system pipes and, therefore, will not be "seen"
by the radio and not effect the ATU's while tuning.
I do not know if this is correct and will appreciate your ideas.
Thank you very much,
Bob
