I have a K1 (#1132) and an MP-1 antenna and have had great success with
this combination.
DX and stateside QSO with 2-5 watts. (VP5, SP2, XE2, DL2, HG6, IK0, G0,
LZ2, EA6, YU7, RU3 etc)
I have used this clamped to: picnic tables, a utility trailer, to a
desk, leaned in the corner of hotel rooms (I hate rooms with windows
that do not open) and on the balcony of other hotels etc. When I use
this antenna I shut the KAT1 off and tune the antenna.
It is what it is... a mini screwdriver type antenna. It is NOT a 1/2
wave dipole or a 1/4 wave GP. Tuning the antenna is very easy and takes
just a few seconds. For an antenna which breaks down to such a small
size and is easy to pack and quick to set up... it is money well spent!
At QRP CW levels it performs well enough that I use it a lot, pack it
and the K1 into an 5.56mm ammo can and have a blast!
I was /P QRP'ing with a 706 and a 33' DK9SQ fiberglass vertical... great
for special events etc. After running the K1 and MP-1... my "go gear"
is a lot lighter!
Happy Holidays and Best DX!
