If you are drawing 16 amps "continuous" with a K2/100, something is VERY
wrong!
The K2/100 only draws bout 16 amp peak, and it's VERY intermittent at
that!
The duty cycle limits on the K2/100 put the average current the K2/100
needs in the range of only 8 to 10 amps! The finals will be "toast"
very quickly if you pull 16 amps more than very intermittently. (The
manual recommends running the K2/100 at no more than 25 watts out for
the K2/100 in a "high-duty-cycle" mode like MFSK).
I even ran one K2/100 on CW just fine off of a Ten Tec 11 amp supply.
The PS heat sinks got warm, but that was the only sign that it was
working hard.
I currently have an Aston 20 amp supply that loafs along no matter long
winded I get.
After all, if a K2/100 ever draws even 20 amps for more that a couple of
seconds, the in-line fuse Elecraft provides is going to blow.
That's not to say that there is no value in a BIG supply. Buying one big
supply to run several rigs on the operating desk is usually cheaper than
buying two or three supplies. But the K2/100 won't need more that bit of
that current capacity.
