I used to use an R4B with a DX-60 transmitter and Hallicrafters HA5 hetrodyne
VFO.  I added a single-tube t/r switch (I think it was a 6AH6) to the DX-60, and
used an auxilliary contact on my keyer to mute the R4B.  I think I also had to
put an 0.001 uf cap from the grid to ground of the R4 audio stage to eliminate
some RF noise.  What I got was PERFECT QSK at any speed -- better than ANY
modern rig, including the K2 (sorry, but it's true).  I could hear between the
dits at 40 wpm with no clicks or other artifacts.

Even the dinosaurs tromping by outside didn't bother it!
