Hi all:
During my trip last week my K2 received a dose of x-ray at the airport.
It must have sat under the machine for a full minute while the
attendants tried to determine what kind of explosive device was in the
small case.
I advised them of the case contents before it went into the machine so
they would not panic and clear the terminal. I also keep a laminated
copy of my license with the rig. Finally after every item in the case
received a through wiping with the little cloth held in the tongs, it
was decided that it was just a harmless toy that weird people "just
can't leave at home."
Now for the question::
Can the x-ray screw up the rom chips.
The system exposed was a fully loaded 100W K2 with the tuner.
I am now encountering the problem of erratic operation when the rig is
first turned on from a cold start. After I get the rig warmed up it
performs to perfection.. The symptoms are::Tuner relays clattering away
but not tuning, PA hot reading, tuner reading just power not swr with no
scan or tuner led's lit, tuner not automatically releasing back to
standby, must again push tune button. Numerous other false displays
appear at various times.
VARYATIONS OF ALL THE ABOVE OCCUR WITH EACH PRESING OF THE TUNE BUTTON
DURING MY PREVIOUSLY NORMAL ATTEMPTS TO MATCH MY ANTENNA.
          Did my rig get sterilized ????
