For starters, use a LONGER screw for the FIRST screw you install.

Install the bail in it's extended position.

Slip the longer screw thru the foot, attach a nut and snug it down a bit. 
repeat the with other foot.

Now, tighten each screw and install the 2nd screw into each foot. Remove 
the long screw and replace with the screw provided by elecraft.
