FW: [Elecraft] Bug in Keyer?

The purpose of ADET ON is to have the rig automatically detect which key is
being used.

IF you wire to Tip and Ground only, then INP HAND is required.

IF you use INP HAND then ADET accomplishes nothing.

However, you can wire the external keyer to both tip and ring thru 2 diodes,
or wire up an external key with two diodes and have the rig figure out if
it's key mode or keyer mode.

One might say that's more trouble that switching the menus, but I disagree.
I run my K2 with a 3.5mm stero splitter in the key jack. Into one jack goes
the Iambic paddle. Into the other goes the straight key. I can now happily
pound brass (I'm really trying to get a decent straight key fist) 'til my
heart's content, but if flustered, (or for the ocasional
ditdididididididididah), and for higher speed operating, the Bencher is
sitting there, live, and needs no menu change to be used.

Also, if I'm pounding away at higher speed, and someone answers on a
straight key, I'll just grab the straight key and continue (It's a Bencher
too, but it goes up and down, not side to squeeze to other side).

If I ever routinely operate at 30 wpm (for a contest, for example), I'd set
ADET back off, and unplug the straight key (as a reminder) and not confuse
the K2.

Paraphrasing Earl: Keep in mind that INP must be set to "hand" because an
external keyer (or computer keying output) is wired to only the tip and
ground of the plug, just like a straight key.
