Be sure when you put the ammeter in line that it is in SERIES with the K2. 
I helped one person who had it connected properly, but left the power wire
in place as well, so the ammeter, while in series between the power supply
and load, was paralleled by the power wiring. He, too, saw suspiciously low
currents.
